The plant is poisonous!
Perennial 60 – 120 cm tall herbaceous plant with a strong bitter smell and taste. Not
very common in gardens, roadsides, fences, weedy places. Rhizome thick, often
woody. Stem erect, branched, with many adherent hairs and punctate glands.
Blooms from July to September. There are a lot of flower baskets, they are drooping,
rounded, very branched. Flowers yellow. The fruit is a very small seed, without hairs.
APPLICATION
Medicinal plant and herb. In medicine, sedges are used to stimulate the secretion of
the stomach, bile and pancreas, to stimulate the appetite, as a mild pain reliever and
sleep aid, and to expel worms.
Contains an essential oil used as a flavoring in the wine and liqueur industry.
In cases of poisoning, there may be convulsions, mental disorders.
