The project "Establishment of a Bat Live Educational School in the Territory of the Lūznava Manor and Park", funded by the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund, has created a bat live educational school at Lūznava Manor. It offers a rich program of information, activities, and education for both children and adults.
The goal is to introduce a wider audience to these unique nocturnal animals—bats—allowing visitors to learn about different species, their role in nature, and the importance of their conservation. Through this initiative, people can study bat behavior, understand their significance in ecosystems, and gain awareness of the need to protect them.
Bat educational schools provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn about bats through a structured training approach. Their goal is to promote bat conservation, dispel negative stereotypes, and raise awareness about the importance of protecting bat species for the future.
Led by nature researcher Renāte Kaupuža, mentor training sessions were conducted, where nearly 30 specialists from various fields deepened their understanding of natural laws, bat research methods, species diversity, and conservation needs. Training materials were tested, and public educational classes were organized to share this knowledge.
During the implementation of the project, the tourism infrastructure offer of Lūznava Manor has also improved: an educational exhibition about 16 species of bats living in Latvia was set up in the attic of the manor and an interactive environmental game about learning about bats was created for different age levels, 10 ultrasound detectors were purchased for bat research during night training, and mobile outdoor classroom equipment was created in the park, which will ensure more convenient organization of the public training process, as well as a bat installation by Norberts Kudiņš was installed in the Lūznava Manor Park to honor bats.
The project has been allocated funding (90% of the project's
eligible costs) of EUR 23,532.00 from the Latvian Environmental Protection
Fund's budget sub-program "Environmental Protection Projects". The
project implementation period is from June 15th, 2021 to October 31st,
2022.
